1. Getting Started

Creating an Account

  1. Open the app and tap Register.
  2. Enter your first name, last name, email, and a secure password.
  3. Complete the CAPTCHA verification.
  4. Check your email and confirm your account via the verification link.
  5. Log in with your email (or username) and password.

First Login Setup

On your first login you will be guided through a short setup: - Upload a profile picture (optional). - Enter your phone number (optional). - Write a short bio (optional). - Select your preferred language (English or German).

Logging In

  • Enter your email or username and your password.
  • If you have enabled two-factor authentication (2FA), you will be asked for a verification code from your authenticator app. If you don't have your authenticator app at hand, tap Use a recovery code and enter one of your recovery codes instead.

Logging Out

Go to your profile or settings and tap Logout. Your session will be ended and your tokens invalidated.

2. Your Profile

Viewing Your Profile

Tap the Profile tab to see: - Your profile picture, name, and email. - Your vehicles. - Your ratings (as rider and as passenger) with average star rating. - Total rides completed (as rider and as passenger). - Your CO2 savings (with a tree-equivalent visualization). - The date you joined.

Viewing Other Users' Profiles

Tap any user's name or avatar elsewhere in the app to view their public profile, including their ratings and vehicles.

Editing Your Profile

Tap Edit Profile on your profile page to change: - First and last name. - Phone number. - Bio / description. - Profile picture (take a new photo or choose from your gallery). - Home location: private, never shown to others; it only drives the "Near you" part of the feed's weekly summary (see Feed).

3. Vehicles

You can register up to 4 vehicles in the app. Vehicles are required to create rides as a driver.

Adding a Vehicle

  1. Go to your profile and tap Add Vehicle.
  2. Enter the make, model, year, license plate, color, and number of seats.
  3. Save.

Managing Vehicles

  • Edit any vehicle to update its details.
  • Delete a vehicle you no longer use. Rides you already drove with it, and the ratings for them, stay in your history. A vehicle that is still booked for an upcoming ride cannot be deleted: switch those rides to another vehicle or cancel them first. Deleted vehicles no longer count toward the limit of 4.
  • Set as default: Mark one vehicle as your default. This vehicle will be pre-selected when you create a ride. If you delete your default vehicle, another vehicle will automatically become the default.

4. Creating a Ride (For Drivers)

Step-by-Step

  1. Navigate to Create a Ride.
  2. Start Location: Enter where you are departing from.
  3. End Location: Enter your destination.
  4. Vehicle: Select which of your vehicles you will use.
  5. Max Passengers: Set how many passengers you can take (limited by your vehicle's seat count).
  6. Date & Time: Pick the departure date and time. It cannot be in the past. If you never pick a time, the next full hour is used.
  7. Options:
  8. Allow Pets: Toggle on if passengers may bring pets.
  9. Allow Luggage: Toggle on if passengers may bring larger luggage.
  10. Privacy Level:
  11. Public: Anyone can see and request to join your ride.

  • Running: The ride is in progress (you have started driving).
  • Finished: The ride is complete.
  • Cancelled: The ride was cancelled.

Starting and Ending a Ride

Ride status updates (start and end) are now automatic. When the scheduled start time is reached and the ride is in progress, the system will automatically mark the ride as started. When the estimated end time is reached, the ride will be marked as finished. All participants are notified automatically.

Editing a Ride

You can edit a ride's details (time, passengers, description, etc.) as long as the ride has not already started.

Deleting a Ride

You can delete a ride at any time. All accepted passengers will be notified automatically.

5. Finding & Joining a Ride (For Passengers)

Searching for a Ride

  1. Navigate to Get a Ride.
  2. Enter your pickup location (where you want to be picked up).
  3. Enter your dropoff location (where you want to go).
  4. Select your pickup date and time.
  5. Set the number of passengers (1–8).
  6. Tap Find Rides.

Search Results

The app shows matching rides with: - Driver name and average rating. - Vehicle details (make, model, color). - Available seats. - Whether pets and luggage are allowed. - Estimated cost (based on price per km × your distance × number of passengers). - Departure time and route overview.

Requesting to Join

  1. Tap on a ride that suits you.
  2. Optionally add a message to the driver.
  3. Tap Request to Join.
  4. The system calculates an alternative route including your pickup and dropoff waypoints.
  5. Your request is sent to the driver for approval.

After Requesting

  • Pending: Waiting for the driver to accept or decline.
  • Accepted: You are confirmed on the ride. You will receive a notification.
  • Declined: The driver declined your request. Depending on the driver's choice, you may or may not be able to retry.
  • Retry: The driver declined but allowed you to submit a new request.

Distance Rules

  • Your pickup location must be within 20 km of the ride's start.
  • Your dropoff location must be within 20 km of the ride's end.
  • Your detour must not add more than 25 km to the ride.
  • Your detour must not exceed the driver's configured max additional time.

6. Managing Your Rides

My Rides Dashboard

The My Rides screen has four tabs:

  1. Calendar: A monthly view showing all your upcoming rides, passenger requests, and events on each date. Tap a date to see details. If no date is selected, your next 5 upcoming activities are shown.

  2. Rides: Lists all your rides split into "Upcoming" and "Past" sections. This includes rides you offered as a driver and rides you joined as a passenger.

  3. Events: Lists events you are attending, split into "Upcoming" and "Past".

  4. Groups: Shows all groups you are a member of, with options to create or search for new groups.

Calendar Export

You can export your rides and events to your phone's calendar using the Export Calendar button.

Ride Details

Tap any ride to see full details: - Route on map. - Driver and passenger information. - Pickup and dropoff times for each passenger. - Ride status and actions (start, end, edit, delete).

7. Recurring (Periodic) Rides

If you drive the same route regularly, you can set up a periodic ride:

  1. When creating a ride, enable Periodic Ride.
  2. Select frequency: Every week, every two weeks, or every month.
  3. Select the weekdays the ride should repeat on.
  4. Set an end date for the series. The end date is included, and it cannot be before the departure date.
  5. Below the settings the app shows how many rides will be created. If no ride falls between the departure date and the end date, the series cannot be saved.
  6. The app will automatically create individual ride requests for each occurrence. Every ride leaves at the same local time, also after a change between summer and winter time.
  7. After saving, the app opens the first ride of the series.

Managing Periodic Rides

  • Edit the periodic ride to update all future occurrences.
  • Delete the periodic ride to remove all future occurrences.
  • Individual rides in the series can also be edited or deleted independently.

8. Friends

Build a friends list to keep track of people you like riding with.

Finding People

  1. Open the top menu (tap your profile picture) and select Friends, or go to Search Users.
  2. Type at least 2 characters of a name. With an empty search box, the app suggests people you may already know from shared groups, events, or rides.
  3. Open a profile and tap Add Friend to send a request.

Responding to a Friend Request

When someone sends you a request, you have three options: - Accept: You become friends. - Decline: The request is refused. They can send another one later. - Ignore (in the ⋯ menu on the request): Quietly removes the request from your list without notifying the sender. The sender still sees "Request sent" and cannot send you a second request, but you can still accept it later from their profile if you change your mind.

Each request shows how many friends you have in common with that person.

Your Friends List

The Friends page has two tabs: 1. Friends: Everyone you are friends with, each row showing your number of mutual friends. Once your list grows past a handful, a filter field appears to search it by name. 2. Requests: Incoming and outgoing friend requests awaiting a decision. You can withdraw a request you sent at any time.

Tap a friend to view their profile, or View someone else's friends from their profile (visible only if their privacy setting allows it).

Removing a Friend

Open the person's profile (or their row in your friends list) and tap the Friends button, then confirm. They are not notified.

Inviting Friends to a Group or Event

Members of a group or event can invite their friends directly: 1. Open the group or event and tap Invite under the description. 2. Select the friends to invite. People who are already members or already invited are shown greyed out. 3. Tap Invite.

Invited friends get an invitation they can accept or decline from the Applications screen.

  8. Optionally upload a group picture.
  9. Optionally set a group location.
  10. Configure admin-only restrictions:
  11. Only admins can create rides in this group.
  12. Only admins can create events in this group.
  13. Enable or disable group chat.
  14. Save.

Searching Events

Go to Search Events to discover public events. Filter by type, location, and time.

Event Rides

Drivers can create rides specifically linked to an event: - To Event: A ride heading to the event location before the event starts. - From Event: A ride leaving the event location after the event ends.

Only event attendees can see and request to join event rides.

Asking for a Ride (Ride Requests)

If you attend an event (or belong to a group) and need a lift, you can post a ride request instead of waiting for a matching ride: 1. Open the event or group and tap Need a ride under the description. 2. Choose the direction (to or from the event/group location), your pickup and drop-off place, the pickup time and how many people travel with you. 3. Optionally tick I could also drive if nobody offers if you have a car. 4. Choose whether other members see your exact addresses or only the city (city only is the default). 5. Tap Post request.

Your request appears under Looking for a ride at the top of the event's or group's Rides tab, with your name, the cities, direction, time and passenger count. Members can message you directly from it. It is also drawn on the event's or group's Map tab next to the rides; if you kept an address city-only, it is shown as a 4 km circle that contains your location but is deliberately not centred on it, so nobody can guess the exact spot.

There is nothing a driver has to "accept": when a member creates a ride that fits your request (same direction, within a few hours of your pickup time and roughly 30 km of your pickup or drop-off), you get a Ride Found notification. Open the ride and request to join as usual. Once the driver accepts you, your request is marked Ride found.

If you ticked I could also drive, other members see a Could also drive badge on your request, and about 24 hours before your pickup time you get a reminder if nobody has offered a ride yet. Drive myself on your request opens the create-ride form pre-filled with your trip; after you create the ride, the request is marked You drive.

Your own requests are listed in My Rides (Rides tab and calendar), where you can edit them (direction, places, time, passengers, the drive-myself option and address visibility) or withdraw them at any time. To move a request to a different event or group, withdraw it and post a new one. Requests expire automatically once their pickup time has passed.

Managing Events

  • Edit event details (if you are the organizer or an admin).
  • Cancel or Delete the event. Attendees will be notified.
  • View the attendee list.
  • Manage join requests (for request-based events).
  • Invite friends to attend (see Friends).

11. Messaging & Chat

Chat Types

  • Direct Chat: One-on-one messaging with another user. You can message users you share a ride with, or the Vodoro Support account.
  • Ride Chat: A group chat with all passengers and the driver of a ride.
  • Group Chat: A group chat with all members of a group (if enabled by the group admin).
  • Event Chat: A group chat with all attendees of an event (if enabled by the event organizer).

Sending Messages

  1. Open a chat from the Chats tab.
  2. Type your message and tap Send.
  3. You can also send image messages by tapping the + button next to the message field, selecting a photo, and optionally adding a caption.
  4. Messages are grouped by day (Today, Yesterday, or the date); your own messages show the time and a double tick.

Chat Features

  • View all your chats with the latest message preview and unread count.
  • Tap the chat header to see info about the chat (participants, group/event/ride details).
  • View the member list in group, event, and ride chats.
  • Navigate to the associated group, event, or ride from the chat header.
  • Tap any participant's name or avatar to view their profile.
  • Pull to refresh to load new messages.

Customer Support Chat

You can message the Vodoro Support account for help. This is an AI-powered customer support assistant that can answer questions about the app, its features, and ride-sharing. See Customer Support for details.

12. Feed

The Feed tab (the third icon in the bottom navigation) collects, newest first: - Posts your friends wrote for their feed, and groups or events they shared to it. - Every post in the groups and events you are a member of, labelled with where it was posted. Tap the label to open that group or event. - Announcements when a friend creates a public group or event.

A dot on the Feed icon means there are new posts since you last opened the tab.

Tap the profile picture or the name at the top of a post to open that person's profile. This works on every post, in the feed and on a group or event wall.

Posting to Your Feed

Tap New post at the bottom of the feed. A feed post has no group or event; only your friends see it. Text, pictures, polls and linked rides, events or groups work exactly as in a group post.

In the composer, Camera takes a new photo on the spot and Gallery picks existing ones (up to 10 per post); the + tile at the end of the photo strip offers both again. Tap a thumbnail to see it full size before publishing. Leaving the composer with unwritten text or photos asks whether to discard or publish first.

To put a group or event you are looking at into your feed, open its Share menu and choose To my feed.

Hiding Posts and Sources

Open the ⋯ menu on a feed card and choose Hide…. The sheet offers up to three options, each with a short note on what it does: - Hide this post – only this one post disappears. - Hide posts from {person} – all their posts leave your feed; you stay friends. - Hide posts from {group/event} – its posts leave your feed; you stay a member.

On a group or event wall the ⋯ menu offers Hide post for any post you did not write – including pinned ones, so an admin's sticky post cannot be forced on you. A hidden post disappears from your feed and from the wall; a link to it (for example from a notification) still opens. Every hide shows an Undo for a few seconds.

You can see what you hid from your feed wherever it appears: - In your Friends list, a hidden friend shows an eye-off icon next to their name. - In My groups, My events and the search results, a hidden group or event shows the same icon in place of the arrow. - On a group or event page the ⋯ menu in the top-right corner shows Hide from feed / Show in feed.

Tap the icon (or the menu entry) to follow that person, group or event again. The full list, together with N hidden posts – Show all again for the single posts you hid, is under Hidden from feed in the top-right menu while you are on the Feed tab.

This Week

The card on top of the feed summarises the coming seven days: - Near you: public events within 50 km of your home location (see Editing Your Profile). Without a home location the card offers to set one. - At friends: events your friends are attending or interested in.

The summary is refreshed once a day; pull down on the feed to refresh it sooner.

13. Notifications & Applications

The Applications Screen

The bell icon in the top bar opens Applications, split into two tabs by the switch at the top (each shows a count of what is waiting): - Applications — everything waiting for a decision, in one place: - Invitations: Groups or events a friend invited you to. - Group Join Requests: Pending requests to join groups you administer. - Ride Applications: Passenger requests on your rides, ready to accept or decline. - Notifications: Your general notification feed, grouped into This Week and Earlier. Unread notifications are highlighted and marked with a dot; tap the dot to mark one as read.

Notification Types

  • Ride Updates: Passenger request received, accepted, declined; ride started, ended, cancelled, edited.
  • Group Activities: Join requests, member changes, group updates; for admins of licensed groups also "CO2 report ready".
  • Event Activities: Join requests, event updates, cancellations.
  • Pickup Requests: A ride was found for your request, or your drive-myself reminder.
  • Friend Requests: Someone sent you a friend request, or accepted yours.
  • Ratings: New rating received.
  • Chat Messages: New messages in your chats.

Managing Notifications

  • View all notifications on the Applications screen.
  • Tap a notification to navigate to the related content.
  • Mark as read individually or use Mark All Read.
  • Delete notifications you no longer need.

Notification Preferences

In Edit Profile → Notification Preferences, you can configure each notification type: - Push only: Receive push notifications on your device. - Email only: Receive email notifications. - Both: Receive push and email. - Disabled: No notifications for this type.

You can also opt in or out of: - Promotional emails. - Feature update emails.

14. Ratings & Reviews

How Ratings Work

After a ride is completed, participants can rate each other: - Rate as Rider: Passengers rate the driver. - Rate as Passenger: The driver rates passengers.

Rating Scale

Stars Meaning
1 Very bad
2 Bad
3 Average
4 Good
5 Excellent

Leaving a Rating

  1. After a ride finishes, you will receive a notification to rate the other participants.
  2. Select a star rating (1–5).
  3. Optionally write a comment.
  4. Submit.

Viewing Ratings

  • Your average rating (as rider and as passenger) is displayed on your profile.
  • You can view all your received ratings in detail from your profile.
  • Other users can see your public rating when viewing your profile.
  • You can only leave one rating per user per ride.

Reliable (Reliability) Stat

Your profile also shows a "Reliable" stat (as rider and as passenger). This indicates how often you show up for rides you have committed to. A high reliability score means you rarely cancel or miss rides at the last minute. This helps build trust in the community.

15. CO2 & Environmental Impact

Vodoro tracks the environmental impact of every shared ride. Only rides with at least one passenger (shared rides) count towards your CO₂ savings and statistics.

How CO2 Savings Are Calculated

  • Formula: Distance (km) × 0.12 kg CO2/km × Number of passengers
  • Based on average car emissions of 120g CO2 per km.
  • Tree equivalent: 1 tree absorbs approximately 21 kg of CO2 per year.

Where You Can See Your Impact

  • Your Profile: Shows your total CO₂ saved as a rider and as a passenger (for shared rides only), plus the tree equivalent.
  • Group Dashboard: Total CO2 saved by all group members.
  • Event Dashboard: Total CO2 saved by event rides.

Company CO2 Reports (Licensed Groups)

Companies with a Vodoro license get a CO2 report for their group every month, plus a yearly report in January: - When: The report for a month is created automatically on the 1st of the following month. The group's creator and admins get a notification as soon as it is ready; tapping it opens the group with its reports. - Download: As creator or admin, open the group, tap the ⋯ menu and choose CO2 Report. Pick a month or year to download the PDF. The report is written in the language set in your profile. - Contents: CO2 saved, shared rides, car kilometres avoided and participation, compared with the previous month or year; the development over the last months; fuel and tree equivalents; who took part and on which weekdays; the most frequent routes and places (city level only); the five most active members; suggestions based on the period's figures; and a short explanation of how everything is calculated.

Company Pricing: | Employees | Price/Month | |-------------|-------------| | 0–100 | Free | | 100–500 | €200 | | 500–2,000 | €500 | | 2,000+ | €1,000 |

16. Safety & Privacy

Location Privacy

  • By default, other users only see the city name for the start and end of your ride — including passengers whose request has been accepted.
  • When creating or editing a ride you can switch either endpoint from City only to Full address. The two are independent, so you can name the destination without naming your front door.
  • Turning an endpoint on shows the exact address to everyone who can see the ride. That is what makes a shared destination findable: someone heading to the same event or workplace can tell before they request a seat. It is best kept off for public rides.
  • The setting is reversible at any time by editing the ride.
  • Note that the map shows the actual position of the route regardless of this setting; it hides the written address, not the location.
  • Your pickup and dropoff locations as a passenger are only visible to the ride's driver.

Message Requests

You can message anyone from their profile with the Message button. If the two of you are not friends and have not shared a ride, your first message arrives as a message request: - The other person finds it under Message requests at the top of their chat list and decides whether to Accept, Delete, Block or Report you. Your messages stay hidden until they accept. - Until they accept, you see a "Request pending" note in the chat. You can keep writing, but they are notified only once. - Reading a request does not tell the sender it was seen. If a request is deleted, the sender is not told. - Friends and people you share a ride with can always message each other directly.

Blocking Users

If you feel uncomfortable with another user: 1. Go to their profile and open the ⋯ menu in the top right. 2. Tap Block User. 3. Blocked users cannot: - Send you messages. - See your rides. - Request to join your rides. - Interact with you in any way. 4. You can unblock users at any time from Edit Profile → Blocked Users.

Reporting Users

If a user violates community guidelines: 1. Go to their profile and open the ⋯ menu in the top right (or use Report on a message request). 2. Tap Report User. 3. Select a category: - Harassment or Bullying - Inappropriate Content - Spam or Unwanted Messages - Fake Profile - Dangerous Driving Behavior - No Show / Unreliable - Scam or Fraud - Privacy Violation - Hate Speech - Other 4. Provide a description of the issue. 5. Submit. Our team will review the report.

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

For extra security, enable 2FA in Edit Profile → Two-Factor Authentication: 1. Tap Enable 2FA. 2. Scan the QR code with your authenticator app (e.g. Google Authenticator, Authy). 3. Enter the verification code to confirm. 4. You are shown 10 recovery codes. Save them somewhere safe (e.g. a password manager, or printed out) — they are shown only once. Use Download to save them as a text file or Copy all to copy them, then tick I have saved these codes and tap Done. 5. On future logins, you will be asked for a code from your authenticator app.

Recovery codes - If you lose your phone or your authenticator app, sign in with a recovery code instead (tap Use a recovery code in the code prompt). - Each recovery code works only once. After signing in with one, the app tells you how many codes you have left. - Edit Profile → Two-Factor Authentication shows how many unused codes you have left. Tap New recovery codes to get a fresh set of 10; your old codes then stop working. You need a code from your authenticator app or a recovery code to do this. - If you have lost both your authenticator app and all your recovery codes, contact support. We will verify your identity before turning 2FA off for your account.

Disabling 2FA Tap Disable 2FA and enter a code from your authenticator app or a recovery code. This also deletes your recovery codes.

Account Lockout

After 3 failed login attempts, your account will be temporarily locked for security. Wait and try again later, or reset your password.

Q: What happens if the driver cancels a ride? A: All accepted passengers are notified immediately. The ride is marked as cancelled.

Q: Can I rate a user more than once for the same ride? A: No. You can only leave one rating per user per ride.

Q: How do I find rides near me? A: Use the Get a Ride feature and enter your pickup and dropoff locations. The app will find rides whose route passes near your locations.

Q: Can I message any user? A: You can message anyone from their profile. If you are not friends and have not shared a ride, your first message arrives as a message request until they accept it. Blocked users cannot message you.

Q: What's the difference between a friend request and a ride request? A: Friend requests connect you to another user for messaging and trust (see Friends). A pickup request ("Need a ride") is a post inside an event or group asking for a lift; see Asking for a Ride under Events.

Q: What languages does the app support? A: English and German.

Q: How do I enable push notifications? A: Go to Edit Profile → Notification Preferences and configure push notifications for each notification type. Make sure notifications are also enabled in your device settings.

Q: My account is locked. What do I do? A: After 3 failed login attempts, your account is temporarily locked. Wait a few minutes and try again, or use Forgot Password to reset your password.

Q: How do I share a group or event? A: Open the group or event and use the Share button to copy a link or share directly with friends.
